December 8, 2020 by greaterportlandnow

Notice: This Sunday’s GP NOW meeting is HAPPENING but our elections are delayed!

GP NOW’s  Annual Election scheduled for Sunday, December 13, 2020, has been postponed until early 2021. Unfortunately, it came to  attention last week that our planned election was not in compliance with the National NOW requirements regarding bylaws in reference to the requirement that“at least 90 days membership requirement to vote in the election.”

Our GP NOW Chapter bylaws must be consistent with national bylaws.    Please see the proposed changes we will be putting in place below.   We expect we will have the new date & info. for the election in the very near term.

We hope you will join us at our Holiday Party & December Membership meeting via Zoom this Sunday, Dec. 13th at Noon.    If you need the zoom link please email us at greaterportlandnow at gmail dot com.
Here are the proposed “new & improved” bylaws:
NOW Article IV Section 1
Members residing or working in a given state, county, municipality, or a regional or metropolitan area shall be encouraged to form a chapter, or members may join or form virtual chapters that are not tied to a geographic district. A chapter shall consist of no fewer than ten members, formulate bylaws consistent with these bylaws, convene and operate for the stated purpose of NOW, and elect its officers. Chapters shall be chartered by the national organization upon meeting these requirements.
NOW Article VIII Section 2

A. Only members in good standing whose dues are received by the national organization or its appropriate subunits at least ninety (90) days prior to the Conference and who are duly registered, credentialed and in attendance shall be eligible to vote at the Conference. Each member in attendance shall have one vote.

B. …There shall be no proxy voting.

Accordingly, to bring our local chapter into compliance with our national organization, and to assure that we have a properly held election, one that is not subject to a possible local grievance, or to invalidation or sanctions from NOW, Greater Portland operating rules provide that any three members can propose amendments to our bylaws.

Proposed additions appear in underlined bold italics. Proposed deletions appear [bold in brackets.]
